As part of the multi-million pound development to house Keswick School on a single site in 1996, a purpose-built Library was opened in the midst of the complex. The Library is named after Rosemary Aitken who was Head Girl of the School in 1932 and served as a foundation governor for eleven years until her death in 1990. It was officially opened on 18 October 1996 by Chris Pilling, a local poet and translator.
The library is staffed by Mrs Marcela Jackson, who also teaches Latin, and Mrs Gillian Hodgson, with additional support from a team of Pupil Librarians. Open throughout the school day, including break and lunch time, many of the Sixth Form choose to use the Library during Private Study as the benefits of unrestricted access to resources and a quiet studying environment are apparent. The Library is also used for Year 7 Accelerated Reader lessons, Key Stage 3 reading time and as a bookable resource for teachers to bring pupils to utilise the space and resources on offer. The Library houses a wide range of resources including fiction and information books, audio books, periodicals, internet access and educational games.
The computerised circulation and catalogue system used is the MLS Reading Cloud, installed in 2018. Access to the catalogue is available from any network machine in departments and offices anywhere in the school. Pupils and staff can search the catalogue to find and reserve books and also to find accessible and age appropriate web links.
Annual activities organised through the Library include a Scholastic Book Fair, World Book Day each Spring and the school's own Book Award . There are also a number of reading promotion activities which take place throughout the year such as the February 'Blind Date with a Book', and an Easter Reading event for staff.
